Kearney is a town and municipality in the Almaguin Highlands region of Parry Sound District of Ontario, Canada. With a landmass of 531 square kilometres and a year-round population of 841 in the Canada 2011 Census, Kearney claims to be the “Biggest Little Town in Ontario.” Kearney is located 3 hours North of Toronto, 30 minutes North of Huntsville, 1.25 hours North-West of Parry Sound, and approximately 1 hour South of North Bay. Kearney in known for its proximity to the northern entrance of Algonquin Park, being only 45 minutes West of the Park.

Evergreen Heights Education Center

Area: Evergreen Heights Education Centre, located in Emsdale, is a Kindergarten to Grade Eight school serving the communities of Emsdale, Kearney, Novar, Sprucedale, and surrounding areas.

Students at E.H.E.C. receive a solid academic program, which is enhanced through the use of technology. Character Education is very important at E.H.E.C.. The social and emotional needs of children are also met through balanced arts, outdoor education, and athletics program.

Almaguin Highlands Secondary School

Area: Almaguin Highlands Secondary School draws students from numerous communities over 54,000 square km of the Near North area.  Students come to Almaguin from Novar, Emsdale, Kearney, Katrine, Bear Lake, Sprucedale, Burks Falls, Magnetawan, Pevensey and Sundridge to the south.  From the north, students come to Almaguin from South River, Trout Creek, Restoule, Golden Valley, Loring, Port Loring, Whitestone, Nipissing, Chisolm and Powassan.

Elementary Schools: Elementary Schools who transition students to Almaguin include Evergreen Education Centre, Land of Lakes Public School, M.A. Wittick Public School, Magnetawan Public School, Sundridge Centennial Public School, South River Public School, Mapleridge Public School, Whitestone Lake Public School, South Shore Education Centre, and Argyle Pubic School.

Location: Almaguin Highlands Secondary School is located at 21 Mountainview Rd., South River. The High School is located approximately 48 kilometers from the town of Magnetawan, or a 30-minute drive. Busing times range from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your location within Kearney.
